ADHD Screening

The Centre for Family Medicine provide ADHD screening for children, adolescents and adults who are patients of our physicians.

ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a condition related to changes in the chemistry and anatomy of the brain.  Signs and symptoms present as part of a pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity which occurs to a much greater degree than what is usually seen in people who are at the same level of development.  ADHD begins in childhood and about 65% of those children's symptoms will persist into adulthood.

At the present time those referred for assessment are seen by our nurse practitioner who through interview, questionnaires and physical exam investigates for the diagnostic features of ADHD.  When the assessment is completed the nurse practitioner in discussion with your family doctor makes a diagnosis.  Follow up will be with the nurse practitioner, physician or both.  For some individuals specialists will also be involved.

We encourage the involvement of the patient, family members, teachers, and mental health professionals in providing services and support to the individual with ADHD.

If you are interested in a referral for assessment please meet with your family physician to arrange this.
